Arthur Guerrero, MD, FACP, FACE
Dr. Arthur Guerrero received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacology and Philosophy in 2000 from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. In 2004, he received his Medical Degree from Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He completed his internship in Internal Medicine at Wilford Hall Medical Center in 2005, and completed his residency at Brooke Army Medical Center in 2007. Dr. Guerrero completed his Endocrinology Fellowship at Walter Reed Medical Center in 2010. He is Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Endocrinology by the National Board of Physicians and Surgeons, and the American Board of Internal Medicine. Dr. Guerrero was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army after a 16 year military career, serving in both Iraq and Afghanistan. There, he earned the Combat Medical Badge, Combat Action Badge and the Bronze Star. Dr. Guerrero enjoys all aspects of Endocrinology, especially pituitary dysfunction, thyroid cancer, and coaching diabetics who experience difficulty controlling their disease.
Laura Akright, MD
Dr. Laura Akright began Northeast Endocrinology Associates in 1987, and practiced initially in Northeast San Antonio before relocating the practice to its previous location in Schertz, Tx.
Since 2008, Dr. Akright has been involved in clinical research trials as Principal Investigator with Northeast Clinical Research and appreciates the opportunity to bring new therapies and technologies to patients.
Dr. Akright is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, and completed both Internal Medicine residency and Endocrinology fellowship in San Antonio. She and her husband, Bruce Akright, MD, have been married since 1977, have three grown sons and an abundance of geriatric pets.
Omar Najera, MD
Dr. Omar Najera earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Texas at El Paso in 2008 and his medical degree from the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio School of Medicine in 2013. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Missouri, followed by a fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at the University of Washington. Dr. Najera is board certified in both Internal Medicine (2017) and Endocrinology (2019). His clinical interests include the diagnosis and management of thyroid and parathyroid disorders, hypogonadism, adrenal gland disorders, and diabetes mellitus. He is committed to providing comprehensive, evidence-based care tailored to each patient's unique needs. Outside of medicine, Dr. Najera enjoys playing the guitar and finds music to be a meaningful way to relax and recharge.
Ameer Khowaja, MD
Dr. Ameer Khowaja earned his medical degree from Aga Khan University in Pakistan in 2006. He completed his residency at Hennepin Healthcare System in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 2012, followed by a fellowship in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism at the University of Minnesota in 2014. He is board certified in both Internal Medicine and Endocrinology. In addition to his clinical training, Dr. Khowaja holds a Master of Science in Public Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in the United Kingdom. His medical interests focus on the diagnosis, management, and education of hormonal disorders, and he is particularly passionate about improving the delivery and efficiency of endocrine healthcare services. Outside of his professional work, Dr. Khowaja enjoys reading non-fiction and writing both fiction and non-fiction.
Martha Bilbatua, MD
Dr. Martha Bilbatua is a board-certified endocrinologist dedicated to delivering personalized, evidence-based care to her patients. She has a particular interest in the management of diabetes and thyroid disorders, and she incorporates the latest advances in endocrine diagnostics and therapies into her clinical practice. Dr. Bilbatua is known for her thoughtful, patient-centered approach and her commitment to helping individuals navigate their health journey with clarity and confidence. She is an active member of professional organizations including The Endocrine Society, The American Association of Clinical Endocrinology, and The Texas Medical Association, which supports her ongoing engagement with the latest developments in the field. Outside of medicine, Dr. Bilbatua enjoys an active lifestyle and finds balance through tennis, swimming, and hiking.
Gabriela Mroueh, MD
Dr. Gabriela Mroueh is a board-certified endocrinologist with a strong commitment to patient-centered care. Her clinical expertise includes the management of diabetes and the integration of advanced diabetes technologies to improve outcomes and enhance quality of life for her patients. She is passionate about guiding individuals through the complexities of diabetes care with compassion, education, and cutting-edge tools. Dr. Mroueh is an active member of several leading medical organizations, including The Endocrine Society, The American Academy of Clinical Endocrinologists, and The Texas Medical Association, staying at the forefront of research and clinical advancements in the field.
